ActionAid Ireland seeks to identify three new Board members to join its voluntary Board in 2021. ActionAid provides long term support to the poorest and most marginalised women and children in developing countries, so they can overcome the obstacles holding them back.
ActionAid Ireland welcomes expressions of interest from professionals who have the following professional expertise and meet the criteria to become a Board Member.
1. International Development / Public Policy expertise
An experienced public policy / international development professional with a keen interest in global development and social justice
Familiar with state sector structures, processes and culture
Up to date in public policy/international development trends
The purpose is to:
Bring perspectives and insight to the Board of ActionAid Ireland on areas of public policy / international development and help build our understanding, influence and dialogue in public policy spheres
Support ActionAid in its engagement with the political structures, with policy makers and politicians across parties and with relevant committees such as Oireachtas Committees.
2. Public Engagement / Public Communications expertise
An experienced public communications professional with a keen interest in global development and social justice
Experienced at implementing successful national level public communications/public engagement strategies
The purpose is to:
Provide insights and greater understanding of communications and public engagement mechanisms, to help strengthen our efforts at influencing our target audiences
3. Business Development
An experienced business professional with a keen interest in global development
and social justice
Experienced at understanding the operational pressures and supports necessary for a small organisation
Experienced at exploring funding opportunities for small organisations
The purpose is to
Bring perspectives and insight to the Board of ActionAid Ireland on areas of strategic focus and insights to strengthen our funding approach, particularly in terms of diversifying income
Advise and help strengthen the effective operations of ActionAid Ireland across the range of management needs, including HR.
Essential Skills/Qualities required for all roles:
A deep appreciation of the voluntary/humanitarian sector, and of the Irish operating environment
Knowledge of the international humanitarian context would be beneficial
Significant experience operating at a senior level on other Boards would be desirable
An understanding of and commitment to ActionAid’s mission and values
Passionate about working for a more equal world
Commitment to the highest levels of governance and accountability
Willing to participate in a Board committee (c. 2 / 3 additional meetings per annum)
Candidates should have sufficient time available to fulfill the role
The ActionAid Board is an unpaid Board. The Board meets six times a year, currently meetings are held online, previously they were held between 18.00 and 20.00 om at the office of ActionAid Ireland, off Parnell Square, Dublin 1.
